So, I went shopping and got new workout gear!! So exciting! I went in with a 20% off coupon to Sports Authority. But when I got there, they were having a ton of sales! It seemed like every rack had a sale sign on it (which I’m not complaining about). So instead of getting something with my 20% off coupon, I took advantage of the store wide sale and got BOGO 50% off. Can’t beat that deal, or pass it up! 😉

My New Workout Gear

WHITE TANK

For the past month or so, I’ve been taking a beginners bicycle class at the Y. I absolutely love it! It’s such a wonderful workout. I’m literally dripping in sweat about half way through (…or a little before then).

After one of the classes I attended, an elderly gentleman came up to me and said I should be in a more advanced class and I was like, oh no! This one is perfect for me! It’s tough! I can’t imagine how much more intense an upper level class would be.

I love biking! It’s so much fun and such a great workout. I think I get my [newfound] love for biking from my Dad, he’s all about biking! Thanks Dad! 🙂

The hubs and I bought new bikes and we’ve been riding them everyday that we can. The other day we went 11.8 miles and were pretty impressed with ourselves!

I love seeing different beauty products that people love and maybe giving some of those a try. I absolutely loooove my top 3 and if you decide to try them out, I hope you do  too!

#1: Light Pink / White nails

I love love love light pink / white nails! Can’t you tell from the pic? Lol I love OPI and Essie nail polishes.

I think it’s so classy and elegant! And it makes my wedding ring shine even brighter than it already does! I think that light pink / nude / white nail polish can be worn all year long. I love white in summer, it pops out in the sun. I just painted my nails red yesterday to give that a try, I’m just not a red nails kind of gal, so I’ll be painting them white after I write this post.

#2 Face Wash and Scrub

My face is unfortunately super sensitive and I have only been able to find a few different brands that I can use without my face drying out like crazy. I read in The Skinny Confidential book that she recommends just using a good ol’ fashioned organic / natural bar of soap. I did my research and found one online that had tons of reviews and I couldn’t find a single bad one. So I bought the bar of soap from Target and used it for a month and it dried my face out, like every other cleanser. It was disappointing since it was all natural…

I came across this Garnier Smoothing Cream Cleanser and I LOOOVE it! My skin and complexion are so much better and my skin looks awesome! I also was wanting to try their Blackhead Eliminating Scrub that has charcoal in it. I always read how charcoal is somehow a great beauty product. I also really love this scrub! It smells good too! Actually, they both smell good! For cleansers and scrubs, I think I’ll just be sticking with Garnier. I haven’t been disappointed, yet.

#3 Chloe + Isabel Stud Earrings

I’m the type of girl who usually wears the same jewelry everyday. And these earrings, I wear almost everyday. This picture is a little blurry, but these earrings are so cute! They’re different than your typical stud without a halo. I love the halo around the center stone in these earrings. They capture the light nicely as well. These earrings are a classic that can be paired with any outfit!

Passion Tea Lemonade Gummies

I was wanting to make some green tea gummies, but I found passion tea in my cabinet, so of course I had to give that a try!

Passion Tea Lemonade Gummies

Passion Tea Lemonade Gummies

  • Boil 1/2 of water.
  • Add 1 Tazo Iced Passion Tea bags. I have the passion tea that makes a pitcher.
  • While the tea is brewing, take 5 gelatin packets and add it to 3/4 c water in a saucepan. I used a fork to stir the gelatin so that it dissolved.
  • Once the passion tea has been brewed, add it to the saucepan.
  • Then, add lemon juice. I didn’t take a measurement, but I’d say it was about 1/8 c. You can always add more or less depending on how lemon-y you want it to taste.
  • Then, add 1 or 2 packets of Stevia or sugar.
  • Then, add another packet of gelatin.
  • Heat the mixture to make sure the gelatin has been dissolved.
  • Finally, pour the mixture into a 9×9 or 8×8 pan or if you have molds you can pour it into that.
  • Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Cut the gummies into squares or take them out of the molds!

* Store in an air tight container in the fridge and enjoy!!

Healthier Banana Chocolate Chip Bread

I had 2 very ripe bananas yesterday and thought perfect time to make banana bread! I went online to find a super easy banana bread recipe and came across this one that I adapted to make a little bit healthier. I was surprised at how easy this bread was to make, I will definitely be making it again!

Banana Chocolate Chip Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c coconut oil
  • 1 c sugar / Stevia
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 c flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 T sweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 c chocolate chips

Directions

Beat the oil and sugar till well combined. Add in the eggs and bananas. Add in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, almond milk and vanilla. Mix well. Lastly, add in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into a greased and floured pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Let cool and enjoy! (I noticed that it took longer for the middle to cook. I eventually took it out of the oven a little doughy in the middle because I didn’t want to burn the rest of the bread. It will continue cooking once you take it out of the oven if you happen to have this same problem I did. And it turned out just fine! It’s not doughy in the middle anymore.)

My favorite way to eat this banana chocolate chip bread is to heat up a slice and add butter on top! YUMMY!!!

Standing All Day… Yes, I Made That Choice

I’ve been reading different articles that you can find here, here, here, here and here about how sitting all day is “killing” us. It’s not good for your health to sit all day. Most people sit all day in a desk at work and then go home to sit all day in front of the television, getting little to no exercise.

Reasons Why Sitting All Day is Bad For You

  • Your life expectancy drops dramatically,
  • You are more likely to gain weight,
  • You can have higher cholesterol,
  • The activity in your muscles slow down so the rate at which you burn calories slows,
  • You can have a higher chance of getting heart disease,
  • You have horrible posture,
  • Your brain gets foggy so it’s hard to concentrate on work,
  • You have a higher risk of getting diabetes
  • You can have high blood pressure,
  • I could go on, but I think these are enough reasons!

After learning about how awful it is for you to sit all day, I started taking little walk breaks, took the long way to the bathroom and started using the stairs. Then, I was lucky enough to get this stand-up addition to my desk. I’ve been using this for over a month now and let me tell you, it has made all the difference!

Standing Desk

I just feel better on the inside, it’s hard to explain. I have more energy. I am able to concentrate better on my work. And I know that I’m being healthier and kinder to my body.

The first week I tried this out, it killed my shins and knees so I had to go buy a pad to stand on. I found mine at Lowe’s. It has helped sooo much!

If you aren’t able to have a stand-up desk and you do sit all day, take these simple steps to add more standing and movement to your day.

  • Take the stairs when possible
  • Get up and move around every 20 minutes (if you have to set an alarm to remind yourself to do this, DO IT!)
  • Take the long way to the bathroom
  • Get up and go talk to your co-worker or boss instead of sending emails or calling them. Plus, it’s just nice to have an actual face-to-face conversation
  • Walk during your lunch break
  • Use a pedometer to track your daily steps, the number might surprise you. It is recommended to take 10,000 steps a day. How close are you to this? The first time I used my pedometer, I barely reached 2,000 steps. Yikes!!

Just adding a few of these items to your day could make all the difference in your health.

Recently, well, for the past several months, I’ve been eating healthier and cleaner. One of the things that I do to help me stay on track is meal planning. To meal plan, I figure out what my nightly dinners will be, make my grocery list, then head to the store.

I’ve made a cute weekly meal planner printable for you below!

DIY Time!

  • Print out the weekly menu (open the PDF version so you get the correct size: Weekly Menu)
  • Place in an 8″ x 10″ frame
  • Use a dry erase marker to write our your meals

I have my weekly menu hung up on a wall in our kitchen. It’s been great having it hung up so I will #1, remember  what I’m supposed to be cooking throughout the week and #2 so that I don’t get discouraged about cooking and want to go out to eat instead.

Good Morning Banana Smoothie

This smoothie is my all time favorite! And it is so simple to make, I can make it in 5 minutes in the morning, which is great since I’m usually rushing to head out the door. Girl likes her sleep, what can I say? Banana Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 1/3 c – 1/4 c of vanilla almond milk
  • Big spoonful of Justin’s Maple Almond Butter
  • Small spoonful of chia seeds (optional)
  • Handful of ice

Directions

Add all the ingredients into a blender. I use a Hamilton Beach Personal Blender that works perfectly for me. Blend until it’s the consistency you like.  To make it thicker, you can either add more ice or use less almond milk. Pour into a glass and you’re good to go! It’s that simple! I usually pour it into my mason jar, grab a plastic reusable straw, put it in my purse and I’m out the door.

Almond Butter Chocolate Cups

Almond Nut Butter Chocolate Cups

I found this recipe for Almond Butter Chocolate Cups from PaleOMG. Of course I had to give it a try! I varied my version a little differently than hers. You can find the recipe for my version below.

These almond butter chocolate cups were extremely easy to make! I might need to make another batch soon!

Almond Butter Chocolate Cups Ingredients

To make, you will need:

  • 3/4 cup Justin’s Maple Almond Butter (or your almond butter of choice)
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 T coconut oil
  • 1 T honey
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup of melted chocolate chips (dark chocolate is healthier, I used regular Nestle chocolate chips since that’s all I had)
  • Extra coconut for the tops *optional
  • Extra sea salt for the tops *optional

Directions:

  • Put all the ingredients, except the chocolate chips in a food processor and blend until smooth. This took me about 5 minutes. I had to scrape the sides with a spatula so it would mix up.
  • Then, you’ll dollop the almond butter mixture into a muffin pan. You’ll need to use your spoon to smash down the mixture. (I used a regular muffin pan, I would recommend using a mini-muffin pan. These were so rich I had to split them in half.)
  • Pour the melted chocolate on top. I added coconut flakes and sea salt to the tops a few to add a little something extra.
  • Place in the freezer and let harden 45 minutes.
  • Use a knife to pop these cups out of the tin.
  • Store in freezer.

Steps to make Almond Butter Chocolate Cups

These almond butter chocolate cups were delicious! Like I mentioned above, they are very rich so I had to cut it in half. If I could change anything, I would have used a mini muffin pan. Try it out and let me know what you think!
