YOU are beautiful and YOU are enough!

Today’s post is going to be a little different. It’s about a topic that might make some cringe or feel unworthy. This issue has really been bothering me a lot lately and has had quite a bit of media attention over a few years. So I want to just take a moment and share my thoughts.

The issue that has been bothering me is women and girls feeling like they aren’t beautiful or good enough. Well, I’m here to tell you that YOU are!!! There are so many articles out there in the media “fat shaming” or “skinny shaming” this woman or that woman. There are girls in schools calling other girls ugly (starting in elementary school), there are women in the work place talking poorly behind each other’s back about another woman and her appearance. There are woman and even men, who constantly are talking about their appearance and what they don’t like about it, what they wish they could change. And this HAS TO STOP! NOW! I don’t understand why women can’t be supportive of each other. Why do we have to bring others down to feel better about ourselves? Or why do we have to bring others down in general? What ever happened to “girl power”? I think it’s time for a come back!

One thing happened recently that really stood out to me. I was teaching a dance class of high schoolers. We were working on spotting (all you dancers out there know what I’m talking about) and I told the girls to look at themselves in the mirrors and don’t look away until they can’t see themselves anymore. One of the girls said something along the lines of she didn’t want to look at herself because she wasn’t pretty. And I was just dumbfounded for a second and couldn’t believe she had said that. She didn’t have any makeup on and I thought she looked really pretty. I told her to stop because she’s beautiful. Her reaction to that was a little taken aback, like she hadn’t really heard that before and it made me sad. Did her parents not tell her she was beautiful? Why did she think she wasn’t pretty?

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have my issues too, there are some days where I feel like I’m the ugliest person ever and then some days I’m feeling pretty beautiful and confident in myself. I’m only human, we all are. But I want the way we view ourselves to change, for the better. I watched this awesome video about an interactive mirror talking to women and building them up. If you have a few minutes, check it out! There are also the Dove commercials which I really like as well, here’s a cute 48 second one you should watch.

I have a little challenge for you, if you feel like you’re not pretty or that you’re not enough, take a minute and do this:

  • Write down 5 things you like about your outward self
  • Write down 5 things you like about your inner self
  • Write down 5 things that you are thankful for
  • Now look in a mirror and tell yourself 5 times that you are beautiful and that you are enough! And if you feel the urge, shout it out! (because you are, you have to believe it now)

** If you’re feeling creative, write down all your 5 things on cute paper and put it in a picture frame to display where you can see it daily and be reminded.

I hope that every woman feels beautiful and feels like she’s enough. We were created in God’s image, He knows every hair on our heads, He created us perfectly. We have to believe that ourselves.

I love seeing different beauty products that people love and maybe giving some of those a try. I absolutely loooove my top 3 and if you decide to try them out, I hope you do  too!

#1: Light Pink / White nails

I love love love light pink / white nails! Can’t you tell from the pic? Lol I love OPI and Essie nail polishes.

I think it’s so classy and elegant! And it makes my wedding ring shine even brighter than it already does! I think that light pink / nude / white nail polish can be worn all year long. I love white in summer, it pops out in the sun. I just painted my nails red yesterday to give that a try, I’m just not a red nails kind of gal, so I’ll be painting them white after I write this post.

#2 Face Wash and Scrub

My face is unfortunately super sensitive and I have only been able to find a few different brands that I can use without my face drying out like crazy. I read in The Skinny Confidential book that she recommends just using a good ol’ fashioned organic / natural bar of soap. I did my research and found one online that had tons of reviews and I couldn’t find a single bad one. So I bought the bar of soap from Target and used it for a month and it dried my face out, like every other cleanser. It was disappointing since it was all natural…

I came across this Garnier Smoothing Cream Cleanser and I LOOOVE it! My skin and complexion are so much better and my skin looks awesome! I also was wanting to try their Blackhead Eliminating Scrub that has charcoal in it. I always read how charcoal is somehow a great beauty product. I also really love this scrub! It smells good too! Actually, they both smell good! For cleansers and scrubs, I think I’ll just be sticking with Garnier. I haven’t been disappointed, yet.

#3 Chloe + Isabel Stud Earrings

I’m the type of girl who usually wears the same jewelry everyday. And these earrings, I wear almost everyday. This picture is a little blurry, but these earrings are so cute! They’re different than your typical stud without a halo. I love the halo around the center stone in these earrings. They capture the light nicely as well. These earrings are a classic that can be paired with any outfit!

Super Simple Easy Peasy DIY

I love anything DIY and crafty! I made this extremely easy DIY to keep my makeup brushes in and I love it!

You can easily make this too and I think it looks great in the bathroom and adds a little bit of a spa feel, who wouldn’t want that?

Easy DIY

You will need:

  • Small round glass jar (or square) – I bought mine from Michael’s
  • Bag of rocks – Also from Michael’s. I know Hobby Lobby has these same items too
  • That’s it!

Clean the glass jar before you start, I hate seeing fingerprints on glass. Then, you just dump the rocks in the jar, do this part gently, you don’t want to accidentally break the jar…

Then, add your brushes and voila! New makeup brush display!

Standing All Day… Yes, I Made That Choice

I’ve been reading different articles that you can find here, here, here, here and here about how sitting all day is “killing” us. It’s not good for your health to sit all day. Most people sit all day in a desk at work and then go home to sit all day in front of the television, getting little to no exercise.

Reasons Why Sitting All Day is Bad For You

  • Your life expectancy drops dramatically,
  • You are more likely to gain weight,
  • You can have higher cholesterol,
  • The activity in your muscles slow down so the rate at which you burn calories slows,
  • You can have a higher chance of getting heart disease,
  • You have horrible posture,
  • Your brain gets foggy so it’s hard to concentrate on work,
  • You have a higher risk of getting diabetes
  • You can have high blood pressure,
  • I could go on, but I think these are enough reasons!

After learning about how awful it is for you to sit all day, I started taking little walk breaks, took the long way to the bathroom and started using the stairs. Then, I was lucky enough to get this stand-up addition to my desk. I’ve been using this for over a month now and let me tell you, it has made all the difference!

I just feel better on the inside, it’s hard to explain. I have more energy. I am able to concentrate better on my work. And I know that I’m being healthier and kinder to my body.

The first week I tried this out, it killed my shins and knees so I had to go buy a pad to stand on. I found mine at Lowe’s. It has helped sooo much!

If you aren’t able to have a stand-up desk and you do sit all day, take these simple steps to add more standing and movement to your day.

  • Take the stairs when possible
  • Get up and move around every 20 minutes (if you have to set an alarm to remind yourself to do this, DO IT!)
  • Take the long way to the bathroom
  • Get up and go talk to your co-worker or boss instead of sending emails or calling them. Plus, it’s just nice to have an actual face-to-face conversation
  • Walk during your lunch break
  • Use a pedometer to track your daily steps, the number might surprise you. It is recommended to take 10,000 steps a day. How close are you to this? The first time I used my pedometer, I barely reached 2,000 steps. Yikes!!

Just adding a few of these items to your day could make all the difference in your health.

My Birthday Re-Cap! *~[ ]

My birthday was on Friday, the 16th. And. It. Was. Awesome!! My amazing hubby surprised me with a little out-of-town get away! We went to a baseball game the night we got there. The next day got a mani/pedi! Then we went to lunch at Fogo De Chao. If you ever get the chance to go there, seriously, do it! Just be sure that you’re hungry, because you will most likely eat waaaay too much like we did! After we were done eating, I got to go on a shopping spree! My husband is the best, special shout out to him and a very special thank you for making my day so wonderful!!

We left to go home so that we could have a birthday dinner with my family, we went to Jason’s Deli, and I was still super full from lunch. My family is the best! Thank you shout out to them for being awesome and for being my family!

I got the Catching Fire DVD. I haven’t read the books yet, I like the surprise of what’s going to happen in the movies. This movie was seriously the best movie I had seen in a looong time!

I got “The One” by Kiera Cass. This is the 3rd book of a trilogy that she has written. If you’re looking for a good summer read, let me recommend this Selection series. I call it the “Happy Hunger Games”. Super short description: The people in the book live in different castes depending on their wealth and jobs. The prince has become of age where he needs to wed. The girls of their country have to apply for the possibility to be his future wife and queen. 35 girls were chosen. They all move into the castle and vie for the prince’s love and affection. It’s also similar to the Bachelor / Bachelorette, just way better 😉

If you haven’t read these books, do so! I can’t wait to start this one!

My Crazy Nails

I love painting my nails! It lets me be creative and it’s just plain fun and girly to have my nails painted.

Crazy designs and random colors are all the rage right now. The craziest I got was painting my nails all different colors and with my monogram! (I’m obsessed with monograms, but that’s a different story.)

I’m trying to be all artistic with taking the pic by a banana, did it work?

I found the monogram decals on Etsy. (They are so easy to put on, you cut out the decal, get the paper wet, take the decal off the paper and place it on your nail.) I LOVE Etsy! If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re seriously missing out.

My 1st Oil Pulling Experience

Oil pulling is an old beauty regime that I’ve been reading about everywhere recently. So of course I had to give it a try! What is oil pulling? All you do is swish coconut oil in your mouth for 20 minutes. It’s that simple! There are many benefits to oil pulling, that you can find below.

**Note: do not swallow the oil and do not put the oil in any sinks, it will solidify and clog your plumbing.

To start, I got a small spoonful of coconut oil. I probably didn’t get enough oil, next time I’ll have to try more. Anyways, let me say, the first 5 seconds I thought I was going to see my dinner again (TMI?). The texture and flavor of the oil is disgusting. If you’re picky about textures, I would recommend melting the oil first.

I swished the oil in my mouth for the full 20 minutes. I’m not going to lie, I was so happy when the 20 minutes was up!


My Results

  • My teeth felt smoother afterwards.
  • I didn’t notice any new white-ness right away, like I had read other people experienced. I think if I tried oil pulling everyday for a week, I would notice a difference.
  • My mouth felt cleaner afterwards.
  • It also cleared my sinuses, which was great! I didn’t realize how clogged my sinuses were!

I will keep trying it out to see what happens (fingers crossed it will whiten my teeth! My teeth are too sensitive for white strips now) or I might try out hydrogen peroxide.

I do recommend giving it a try!
